UAP [Unidentified Aerial Phenomena] Summary
Record from the National Archives (NAID: 580705285).
The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) convened a closed workshop this week to solicit input on the future direction of UAP research, signaling continued internal momentum despite public disclosure efforts slowing in recent months. Meanwhile, the disappearance of General Neil McCasland has drawn UAP researchers into the spotlight, with his wife this week pushing back against what she called "misinformation" surrounding his case, even as experts continue offering theories about what happened. With the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act UAP briefing deadline set for June and the Contact in the Desert conference scheduled for May, the coming months will test whether AARO's workshop plans translate into new research frameworks or policy shifts that reach beyond Pentagon walls.

Record from the National Archives (NAID: 580705021).
This report is provided by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in response to a requirement established in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022, Section 1683 (h), as amended by Section 6802(k) of the FY 2023 NDAA (as codified at 50 U.S.C. § 3373). The consolidated report covers individual reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) from August 31, 2022 to April 30, 2023, as well as earlier UAP reports that had not already been included in another consolidated report. The All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) received a total of 291 UAP incident reports during this period, consisting of 274 that occurred during this period and another 17 that occurred during previous reporting periods of 2019-2022.
Conferences, hearings, and deadlines
The annual Contact in the Desert conference returns as the world's largest gathering dedicated to UAP research, disclosure, and contact phenomena.
The FY2026 NDAA requires AARO to deliver detailed briefings to Congress on NORTHCOM and NORAD UAP intercepts, including the number, location, and nature of each encounter. The legislation also mandates improved interagency data-sharing protocols. Exact briefing deadline TBD but expected in the first half of 2026.
